Get to Know Us
Back in 2014, Donna Black was a trainer in the dance fitness community. She began mentoring and collaborating with a group of instructors at a local event center in Tacoma, WA. Together, they created a weekly teaching schedule where instructors partnered up and committed to teaching on the same day and time each week. They called it COMMIT to YOU—or CTY. This became their home base, a place to teach high-energy classes and grow a supportive community.
At the same time, Donna was working on a development team with her sister, Jessica Black (aka J.Black), and Jessica Quande. Eventually, all three left the company they were previously with. Donna and Quande continued hosting master classes, though at the time, they were without an official format. J.Black went on to work at State Farm.
Then on April 17, 2017, Donna, J.Black, and Quande officially applied for a business license, forming Commit to You Fitness, LLC. They invited the instructors who had been teaching at CTY to a meeting and asked if they wanted to join them on the journey of building something new—a format of their own. That format would become COMMIT Dance Fitness, the first official format under the COMMIT To YOU Fitness umbrella.
Initially, J.Black wasn’t fully convinced to pursue a format. But by November 2017, after seeing the dedication Donna and Quande were pouring into the company—developing retail ideas, course materials, and consistently building their brand—she decided to jump in. That same month, the official COMMIT website was launched, and the first training was created.
COMMIT Dance Fitness licensed 80 instructors in its very first training, and another 80 in its second. Since then, we’ve licensed over 600 instructors across more than 15 states. We’ve often been compared to the tortoise in The Tortoise and the Hare—and we’re perfectly fine with that. Through consistency and balance, we’re building something that will last.
Today, we’re proud to have a Leadership team of over 50 members, and a growing network of licensed instructors nationwide.
